How to make a camera obscura1. Begin with a cylindrical container such as a Pringles can. Ensure the container is clean and dry. Prepare the interior of the container by painting it black. This step is crucial to prevent light leaks and ensure your images are crisp and clear.
2. Next, create the pinhole, the heart of your camera. Take a piece of black card and line the can with it then use a pin or needle to puncture a tiny hole in the center. This pinhole will act as the lens of your camera, capturing light and forming images. 3. Cover one end of the container (opposite to the lid) with aluminum foil. Securely tape the piece of aluminum with the pinhole over the center of the foil. Ensure the pinhole faces inward, towards the center of the container. With your pinhole in place, your camera is almost ready. 4. In a darkened room, load your chosen light-sensitive medium into the container. This could be photographic paper, light-sensitive film, or even the sensor of a digital camera or smartphone. Seal the container tightly with its lid or any lightproof material to prevent unwanted light from entering during exposure. 5. To take a photograph, remove the lid and aim the pinhole at your subject. Keep the camera steady to avoid blurring, and uncover the pinhole for the desired exposure time. This can vary depending on lighting conditions and the sensitivity of the medium. |

This video is very interesting as it informs us on how to creatively make a light painting either with professional equipment or just your smartphone. Light painting is a photographic technique where you take a very long exposure photo with a moving light source, this creates a cool laser affect. The equipment you will need will consist of a camera, which could either be your DSLR camera if you have one, or just your smartphone camera, a mount that could either be a tripod or just some binder clips to attach to your smartphone and finally a light source that can easily be moved around.
